Henryberth Emmanuel Rivas Vivas was arrested on September 5, 2018, in the context of the investigation into the alleged drone attack against Nicolás Maduro. According to the testimony of his sister, Hiowanka Danahi Ávila Rivas, he has been deprived of liberty for nearly seven years and was sentenced to 30 years in prison without sufficient evidence. She also denounced that he was tortured from the moment of his arrest and continues to be a victim of torture and ill-treatment during his imprisonment. He has been held in El Helicoide, the headquarters of SEBIN, and later at the Rodeo I Penitentiary Center. Various national and international organizations have documented serious irregularities in the so-called “drone case,” including reports of short-term enforced disappearances, confessions allegedly obtained under coercion, procedural delays, allegations of torture, and sentences of up to 30 years in prison against several of the accused.
