Nelson Alexis Giménez Canelón was a taxi driver and father of two. On April 18, 2017, he was the victim of an enforced disappearance in the Indio Manaure sector of Barquisimeto, Lara state. According to witnesses, several armed men intercepted him, forced him into a vehicle, and drove away from the scene. Before being taken, Nelson threw his cell phone to the ground and shouted to nearby people to notify his mother. Since that day, his whereabouts have remained unknown. His family immediately reported the disappearance and repeatedly sought information from Venezuelan authorities without receiving an effective response. Human rights organizations documented the case as an alleged enforced disappearance and accompanied his relatives in their search for justice. After exhausting domestic remedies without significant progress, his family announced they would take the case before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Years after his disappearance, no one has been held accountable, and his fate and whereabouts remain unknown.
