Daniel Enrique Echenagucia Vallenilla is a 47-year-old Venezuelan-Italian businessman who was arbitrarily detained on August 2, 2024, by Bolivarian National Guard officials at a checkpoint in Valencia, Carabobo state, without a warrant being presented. According to the testimony of his wife, Marien Padilla, following his arrest he was subjected to a short-term enforced disappearance, remaining for several hours without his relatives knowing his whereabouts. That same day, DGCIM agents raided his home without a search warrant and confiscated documents and electronic equipment. He was subsequently transferred to the Rodeo I detention center, where he remains deprived of liberty. Human rights organizations have documented that his process has been marked by judicial delays, restrictions on communication with his family, reports of isolation, deterioration of his health, and the alleged existence of a release order (boleta de excarcelación) that has not been executed. In June 2026, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures in his favor, considering that his rights to life, personal integrity, and health face a grave and irreparable risk, and further requesting that the Venezuelan State clarify the reasons why he remains deprived of liberty.
