Jackson Andrés Vera, a degree holder in Administration, student leader graduated from the University of Los Andes (ULA), and political activist, was arbitrarily detained on August 5, 2022, in Táchira state without a warrant. According to the testimony of his sister, Fabiana Vera, he remained forcibly disappeared for four days before authorities confirmed his whereabouts and he was subsequently held in El Helicoide, where he remained for nearly four years. During his detention, he denounced prolonged procedural delays, the complete lack of evidence supporting the accusations against him, and a severe deterioration in his health, including respiratory problems for which he did not receive specialized medical care despite repeated requests from his family. Human rights organizations classified his case, along with that of Ricardo Cariel, as a judicial setup and documented widespread due process violations. On June 3, 2026, he was transferred to La Planta detention center and subsequently released, following nearly four years of arbitrary deprivation of liberty. His family has reiterated that his release does not put an end to the violations suffered and continues to demand justice and the freedom of all remaining individuals detained for political reasons in Venezuela.
