On May 5, 2015, María Bravo Puello lost her son, Julio César Armas Bravo, during an operation carried out by officials of the Corps of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations (CICPC) in El Valle, Caracas. According to her testimony, Julio César was sleeping inside the home when the officials forcefully broke in and shot him. Afterward, authorities reported that he had died during an armed confrontation; however, María has systematically rejected that version, maintaining that her son was unarmed and was the victim of an extrajudicial execution. Since his death, she has dedicated herself to seeking truth and justice, denouncing the lack of an effective investigation and the prolonged inaction of the Public Ministry. Years after the events, she continues to denounce that no one has been held accountable and that the family has not received any meaningful response from the authorities, leaving the case in impunity.
